Help & FAQ

Everything you need to get going.

A two-minute tour of how MeetingSidekick works, how to let your phone hear the meeting, and answers to the questions we hear most.

Getting started

How to use MeetingSidekick

From sign-in to a finished summary in six steps. Works on a laptop or right from your phone.

  1. 1

Create your account & log in

Go to meetingsidekick.ai, create an account with your email, and confirm it from the verification email. Already have one? Just log in.

  2. 2

    Start a new meeting

Tap + New meeting in the sidebar (or Start recording on the welcome screen). Give it a title any time โ€” even while it's running.

  3. 3

Press Start and allow the microphone

The first time, your browser asks to use the microphone โ€” tap Allow. That's the whole setup. On a phone this prompt is the most common snag, so we walk through it below ๐Ÿ‘‡

  4. 4

Pick what to capture (laptop only)

On a computer you can choose your audio source:

    • Mic โ€” your own voice and anyone in the room. Best for in-person meetings.
    • System โ€” the call audio your computer is playing (the other people on a video call).
    • Mic + System โ€” both at once, for hybrid meetings (some in the room, some on the call).

On a phone or tablet, recording is microphone-only โ€” so for a video call, keep the phone near the speaker, or put the call on speakerphone.

  5. 5

Get your summary & action items

Watch the live transcript fill in as people talk. When you're done, press Summarize for a clean recap with key points, decisions, and action items. Press End meeting to stop recording.

  6. 6

Ask the meeting anything โ€” and email yourself a copy

Use Ask this meeting to chat with the transcript ("What did I agree to?", "What questions should I raise next time?"). Hit โœ‰ Email recap to send the full transcript and summary to your inbox. Every meeting is saved to your account in the sidebar.

Most important

Allow microphone access on your phone

MeetingSidekick listens through your phone's microphone. If your browser doesn't have permission, the timer stays at 00:00 and you'll see "Microphone permission is blocked." On an iPhone you may need to switch it on in two separate places โ€” both are below. Do these once and it just works after that.

iPhone & iPad โ€” Safari

Two places to check. Start with the on-page prompt; if Start still won't work, unlock the two Settings pages below.

โ‘  Allow it on the page

  1. Open meetingsidekick.ai in Safari and press Start. When Safari asks "โ€ฆwould like to Access the Microphone," tap Allow.
  2. Tapped Don't Allow by accident? Tap the page menu โ€” the โ€œaAโ€ (or โ€ขโ€ขโ€ข) icon at the edge of the address bar โ†’ Website Settings โ†’ set Microphone to Allow โ†’ Done, then reload.

โ‘ก Settings page 1 โ€” turn on Safari's microphone

  1. Open the Settings app โ†’ tap Apps (newer iOS) and choose Safari, or scroll down and tap Safari directly.
  2. Make sure Camera & Microphone Access is turned on.
  3. Scroll to Settings for Websites โ†’ tap Microphone โ†’ choose Ask or Allow (not Deny).

โ‘ข Settings page 2 โ€” turn on the microphone privacy switch

  1. Open Settings โ†’ Privacy & Security โ†’ Microphone.
  2. Find your browser in the list (Safari, or Chrome/Edge if you use one) and make sure its switch is green / on.
  3. Go back to the browser, reload the page, press Start, and tap Allow. ๐ŸŽ‰

Tip: if you use Chrome, Edge, or Firefox on your iPhone instead of Safari, the on-page prompt is the same โ€” but page โ‘ก lives in Settings โ†’ Privacy & Security โ†’ Microphone (step โ‘ข above), where you flip that browser on.

Android โ€” Chrome

Allow it on the page

  1. Open meetingsidekick.ai and press Start. When Chrome asks, tap Allow (or While using the app).
  2. Blocked it already? Tap the lock / tune (โš™) icon at the left of the address bar โ†’ Permissions โ†’ Microphone โ†’ Allow, then reload.

If it's still blocked โ€” let Chrome use the mic

  1. Open phone Settings โ†’ Apps โ†’ Chrome โ†’ Permissions โ†’ Microphone โ†’ Allow.
  2. Reopen the page, press Start, and tap Allow.

Still stuck? Quick checklist

  • You're on https://meetingsidekick.ai (microphones only work on secure https pages).
  • Reload the page after changing any setting โ€” permissions apply on the next load.
  • Make sure no other app (a video call, voice memo) is already using the mic; close it and try again.
  • Check the phone isn't on a hardware mute and the browser isn't muted.
  • As a last resort, fully close and reopen the browser, or restart the phone.

Tried all of this and it still won't allow the mic? Email admin@meetingsidekick.ai with your phone model and browser and we'll help.

Q&A

Frequently asked questions

Tap any question to expand it.

Do the other people know I'm recording? Do I need their consent?

That's up to you, and it's your responsibility. Laws on recording and transcribing conversations vary by place โ€” some require that everyone consents. You're responsible for getting any consent and giving any notice the law and your workplace require before you record. See the Terms & recording responsibility notice on the home page for the full text.

On a video call, does it capture the other people or just me?

On a laptop, you choose: Mic captures you and the room, System captures the call audio your computer plays (the other people), and Mic + System captures both.

On a phone or tablet, recording is microphone-only โ€” phones can't tap the call's audio directly. For a video call on your phone, use speakerphone or keep the phone near the speaker so the mic can hear everyone.

The timer says 00:00 / "Microphone permission is blocked." How do I fix it?

Your browser hasn't been given mic permission yet. On a computer, click the ๐Ÿ”’ lock (or camera/mic icon) in the address bar and set Microphone to Allow, then reload. On a phone, follow the step-by-step in Allow microphone access on your phone โ€” on iPhone there are two Settings pages to switch on.

How many hours do I get? What's the difference between Free and Pro?

Both plans include everything โ€” live transcription, AI summaries, the meeting chatbot, and email recaps. The only difference is your monthly recording hours: Free includes 2 hours per month and Pro includes 60 hours per month ($15/mo, or $120/year). You can upgrade anytime from inside the app; see the Pricing section for current details.

Can I use it for in-person meetings, lectures, or interviews?

Yes. Choose the Mic source (or just use your phone) and MeetingSidekick transcribes whatever it hears in the room โ€” no video call required. Great for lectures, interviews, and one-on-ones.

Is my audio recording stored somewhere?

No. Audio is converted to text and we keep only the text โ€” the transcript, summary, and chat โ€” saved to your account. We don't store the raw audio after it's transcribed, and we don't sell your data or use it to train AI models. See the Privacy Policy on the home page for the full detail.

Where are my meetings saved, and can I get a copy by email?

Every meeting is saved to your account and listed in the left sidebar โ€” click any one to reopen its transcript, summary, and chat. For a copy in your inbox, open the meeting and tap โœ‰ Email recap to send the full transcript plus the summary, decisions, and action items.

Which browsers and devices does it work on?

Any modern browser on desktop or mobile โ€” Chrome, Edge, Safari, and Firefox. System / Mic + System audio capture needs Chrome or Edge on a desktop; phones and other browsers are microphone-only. The site must be loaded over https for the microphone to work.

Can I keep recording with the screen off to save battery?

Yes. While recording, tap ๐ŸŒ™ Dim screen to paint the screen near-black โ€” recording keeps going and the timer stays live. Tap anywhere to wake it back up.

How do I delete a meeting or my account data?

Open a meeting and tap Delete to permanently remove its transcript, summary, and chat. To delete your whole account and personal data, email admin@meetingsidekick.ai.

How do I upgrade to Pro or cancel?

Upgrade anytime from inside the app โ€” you'll be prompted when you approach your free hours, or you can start from the Pricing section. Billing is handled securely by Stripe and you can cancel whenever you like.

Ready when your meeting is.

Press Start โ€” that's the whole job.
